What can you do before you get pregnant?

Please note that you and your partner have but little influence on a possible pregnancy when you encounter fertility problems. However, when the two partners are fertile there are a few things that you both can do to improve your chances to conceive as well as the conditions of your pregnancy:

• It is highly recommended to quit smoking for women as well as for men. Women smoking on average 1 pack per day are 50% less likely to get pregnant than non-smoking women. Smoking men have a lower sperm production and the quality of the seed is reduced.
• It is wise to take folic acid for both men and women who want to conceive.
